Chat has its own language (which goes hand in hand with its rules):

Asv Ban Channel Caps Clone Flood G-lined Ip IRC Join Lag Lol Mode Nuke Password Nickname PM Room Spam Spoof Trojan

Asv

Age sex location... A first identity often requested before starting a conversation... Others prefer to chat and discover the asv of their interlocutor gradually. To each their own ;)

Ban

To ban: mode +b. During a chat session, your behavior resulted in a temporary ban (from 10 minutes to several hours) preventing you from returning to the channel. The only "clean" solution is to ask the person who banned you to unban you and apologize because if an operator banned you, it's because you abused their patience! Only the op who banned you can unban you.

Join

Command to change channels by typing /join channel_name (e.g., #Help to join the help channel).

Lol

Laugh out loud, equivalent to "mdr" in French or :-D for example....

Password

Individual & secret command used to identify yourself as a user.

Channel - Room

Virtual and interactive place where chatters meet.

Caps

Special characters (colors, dashes, uppercase, dots, accents...) that shouldn't be used because while they appear clearly on your computer, they might be interpreted differently by another computer and become unreadable: which isn't the goal of chat, right? Caps can be used at specific times: urgency, greetings... You can use the /me command to send an important message (syntax: /me message)

Clone

To split yourself, control multiple nicknames. It's forbidden just like flooding. Not all clones are duplicates: 10 connected users can have the same IP address depending on their connection.

DCC

Direct Client to Client Connection: direct connection between two users who can send files via chat. Be careful to only receive files from trusted people!

Flood

Repeated action at an excessive rate in a limited time. For example, repeating the same phrase 3 times in a row is unacceptable flooding because it monopolizes the public channel and shows disrespect to others. Plus, FLOODING overloads the server and slows down connections.

G-line

Major punishment where the chatter is excluded from chat and can't return.

IP

Dynamic or fixed address of your computer. We remind you that IPs are hidden on the chat and that you're the only one who can see it.

IRC

Internet Relay Chat: Real-time discussion relayed by internet like EuropNet chat.

Lag

When a person (or server) you're communicating with responds with an excessive delay... Even if patience is a chatter's virtue, you should respond quickly to a call concerning you... Or set yourself as "away".

Nuke

Computer attack during an internet connection. There are defense software available on the web (Winsock for example is the most known).

Mode

Discussion channels have different modes just like users. For the latter, you've already noticed the difference between operators (who have mode +o) and other users. For channels there are different modes too: * Mode +i where only invitees can enter and chat. * Mode +m which means moderated channel.

Nickname

It's your cyber identifier and should be cultivated like a beautiful rose! By being polite, courteous, refined and friendly, your nickname is respected on chat (or ZCC: Zen Clean & Cool). Over time, people know who they're dealing with and don't waste time. Sometimes an impersonator takes your nickname and thus prevents you from accessing chat: connect with another nickname and politely ask them to change their nickname so you can recover yours. An "abusive" impersonator will be quickly spotted and punished. Clack!

PM

Private message (msg) to differentiate from messages sent in the channel. Only the sender and recipient read PMs. If a third party's message appears in your PM window, it's not an intrusion but a note (op warning, channel invitation, etc...) unrelated to your PM. To send a PM, simply click on the recipient's nickname or use the command /msg recipient_nickname your_message. Note: On our Server, you can block PMs (Anti Private) with the commands: /mode your_nickname +D

Spoof

Hide your IP address by using another. Strictly forbidden!

Spam

Making "wild" advertising which is forbidden. Imagine if it were allowed and chat (like your email inbox) would be filled with heavy messages! That's why advertising is forbidden on chat and in public.

Trojan

Infection of your computer that starts working on its own (disk keeps grinding, applications launch by themselves...) and can be controlled by another person via internet: "Trojan horse" intrusion. Therefore, don't accept anything from internet users you don't know (files, DCC....) and thus refuse inappropriate reception requests. Note that certain files (example .exe) are directly refused by the server.
